Our Humble Beginnings
Founded in 1979 by John and Mary Smith, Pine Glo started as a small business run out of their home. As busy parents of three children, they were frustrated by the harsh, ineffective cleaners on the market. Mary Smith, a chemist, knew there had to be a better way. She began developing plant-based formulas that were safer for families, but cut through messes quickly.
When their friends and neighbors started asking to buy Mary’s concoctions, the couple realized they had stumbled upon a great business opportunity. They rented a small warehouse, got the necessary permits, and launched Pine Glo cleaners.
Within a few short years, Pine Glo products were being sold in stores throughout the state of North Carolina. As demand grew, John eventually left his teaching career to focus on the company full-time.
Growth Through the Decades
In the 80s, the Smiths expanded into a larger production facility to meet growing demand. By the early 90s, Pine Glo cleaners were being sold throughout the Southeast. The product line also expanded to include specialized cleaners for bathrooms, kitchens, windows and more.
The late 90s brought major national growth, with distribution reaching nationwide. Yet even as a nationally-known brand, Pine Glo has remained family-owned and committed to its roots. Mary and John’s children grew up helping bottle cleaners after school – and those same kids now have leadership roles in the company!
Today, Pine Glo calls North Carolina home to its state-of-the-art production facility and corporate headquarters. But our products can be found in major retailers across all 50 states. After four decades, the Pine Glo name has become synonymous with cleaning products that work wonders, without harsh chemicals. We’ve come a long way since our humble home-based beginning!
